The East of Singapore is famous for it's variety of food ranging from local dishes to Western. And if you are living in the East and you have not tried the famous Nasi Ayam Penyet, boy you are losing out on something incredible.
Sri Bistari is famously known for their Nasi Ayam Penyet. Originally came from Changi Village, Sri Bistari now has another franchise at Bedok North, right in the heart of the Bedok neighbourhood.
Other than Nasi Ayam Penyet, Sri Bistari also has other variety of "Penyet" food such as Ikan Penyet. As what the Malays would call it, "pelik tapi sedap" (weird but delicious).
The meal is a standard Nasi Ayam Penyet meal. It comes with rice, soup and the "penyet" chicken (penyet means crush. Penyet is a Malay word). So before I get to the best part of the meal (which is the chicken and sambal of course), let us review the rice first.
The rice
The rice is...a chicken-flavoured rice. Well, a normal chicken rice. I supposed this is what made Sri Bistari different from other Nasi Ayam Penyet as because most of the other Nasi Ayam Penyet that I tasted uses normal plain rice.
The rice has enough chicken stock in it, which results in perfect taste of the rice. However, it is a tad bit too dry for my liking. This is where the soup comes in.
Now now...are you ready for the stars ?

The Stars: Chicken and Sambal.
It is useless to argue that the chicken and the sambal is not the essence of a Nasi Ayam Penyet meal. Because without them, it is not Nasi Ayam Penyet anymore.
If you are expecting a super spicy sambal, you are wrong. Speaking from a I-don't-really-eat-spicy-food person, the spiciness is tolerable. However, if you are a I-swear-to-God-I-hate-spicy-food-it-makes-my-eyes-water-and-ruin-my-eyeliner kind of person, then just add on the soup to the sambal and you will be just fine.
The other star, the chicken, is fried to perfection! Peel every inch of the chicken and you won't find any red-ness. It if cooked thoroughly, crispy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. To be honest, I can eat only the chicken and sambal and not care about the rice.

Sri Bistari provide you with two kind of choice, either you want chicken wing or drumstick. A chicken wing Nasi Ayam Meal will cost you $4.00 while the drumstick cost you $4.50 (don't ask my why. I myself wonder). So, if you only have $5 and starving, this is one of the place you should go!
